Joanne Byron

Ms. Byron is CEO and founder of the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance and chairperson of the Board of Directors. She has developed the programs offered through this institute, has co-written the curriculum, and has served as an instructor for these programs as well. She is affiliated with AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants), AAPC (American Academy for Professional Coders), ACMCS (American College of Medical Coding Specialists), AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association), ASQ (American Society for Quality), and the MGMA (Medical Group Management Association). As a graduate with honors from St. Augustine Technical Center in 1980 with a diploma in nursing, Joanne continued her education at Lake Erie College in Health Care Administration, obtained a Bachelors of Science Degree in Natural Health Science from Clayton College, is a Certified Healthcare Auditor and Certified Professional Coder and holds a current license in North Carolina and Ohio as a Practical Nurse.

Gloria Huffman-Gregory,

Ms. Gregory is currently the Officer for Health Services, Inc., a 10 clinic FQHC facility in Montgomery, Alabama and serves on our Board of Directors. Her contributions are oversight of our compliance certification program and general education curriculum for distance learning approach. Ms. Gregory has developed college curriculum and has served for many years as a college instructor as well as Division Chair, General Education/ Instructor in the Medical Assisting Program at Trenholm State Technical College. During her service at the college, she served on the Board of Directors for Health Services, Inc, before accepting the position as Compliance Officer for the 10 clinic FQHC facility. Ms. Gregory received her B.S. Degree in Business Education from Alabama State University and a Master of Education from Auburn University.

Gregory Garth, MD graduated with his Bachelors of Science degree from Pennsylvania State University in 1973. After working as an engineer for Eastman Kodak Company for five years, he returned to Pennsylvania State University's Medical School where he obtained an MD in 1981. Dr. Garth's post-graduate training was conducted as an active duty United States Army officer at Madigan Army Medical Center from 1981 to 1986, specializing in otolaryngology head and neck surgery. Dr. Garth remained on active duty until 1990. After practicing medicine privately from 1990, Dr. Garth joined Boone Regional Ear, Nose and Throat Associates, PLLC. He is working as an attending physician in a teaching facility in Pennsylvania beginning 2009.

Shannan Leiser Grimpe,

Mrs. Grimpe serves on our board to ensure the highest standards are maintained for continuing certification of our graduates and participates in the scholarship program oversight. She has an extensive knowledge of medical billing and software, including helping companies with billing software conversions. Shannan is an active member of the American Academy of Professional Coders and the Medical Association of Billers. Shannan graduated from Sinclair Community College in Dayton, OH in 2009 with an associates degree in Business Information Systems with a specialty in Medical Offices, she is currently enrolled in Wright State University working towards a bachelors in Management Information Systems with a concentration in Health Information Systems.

Heather Skelton,

Ms. Skelton focuses her boutique law practice in health care law specializing in medical office compliance, practice management and representing physicians and specializing in managed care contracting. Her contributions as a Board Member relates to both regulatory compliance oversight of our distance learning programs. Her expertise includes health care regulations, employment law, and business law, including partnerships and dissolutions. Heather graduated with honors from Tulane Law School and the University of Chapel Hill with a degree in business. She is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the North Carolina Society of Healthcare Attorneys, and the Health Law Section of the American Bar Association.

Ms. Sullivan is an attorney licensed in New York and Texas who is presently of counsel to McCue-Pauley & Associates, P.C in Dallas, Texas. She graduated summa cum laude from the State University of New York College at Buffalo in 1981 with a B.S. in education, and received her J.D. in 1984 from the State University of New York at Buffalo Law School. Before relocating to Texas in 2000, Mary practiced in Buffalo, New York for 15 years, where she handled personal injury actions for plaintiffs, as well as family law and criminal matters. Mary has practiced in the areas of medical and legal malpractice defense and health care law as well as practice criminal defense, and has represented physicians and other health care providers charged with Medicare/Medicaid fraud. Mary is admitted to practice in the United States District Courts for the Western District of New York, and for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association and the State Bar of Texas. In 2003 and 2004, she was recognized by the Dallas Bar Association as an Outstanding Volunteer for her work in the East and West Legal Clinics, and was featured as one of the “Dallas Volunteer Attorney Program’s Finest” in the May 2004 issue of Headnotes, a publication of the Dallas Bar Association.
Ms. Drummond brings over 20 years of experience and multiple coding and billing certifications! She serves on the national board of Advanced Coding Specialists in Radiology and OB/GYN. Karen is a past presenter for the American Academy of Professional Coders and has worked locally and nationally educating physicians and their staffs on documentation guidelines and coding concepts. She is also, an American Academy of Professional Coders approved PMCC instructor, who has taught medical billing and coding at Stark State College, Canton City Schools Adult Education, and Portage Lakes Career Center in Ohio. Currently she is teaching several coding on line courses. Karen has worked for two large hospitals teaching the residency program the documentation guidelines and as a coding manager. She is currently working as a practice management and auditing consultant in North Carolina.
