Ms. Byron is CEO, founder of the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance and chairperson of the Board of Directors. She has developed the programs offered through this institute, has co-written the curriculum, and has served as an instructor for these programs as well. Joanne has served as the Chairperson of the Board for Ohio with the American College of Medical Coding Specialists (ACMCS), is affiliated with AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants), AAPC (American Academy for Professional Coders), ACMCS (American College of Medical Coding Specialists), AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association), ASQ (American Society for Quality), and the MGMA (Medical Group Management Association). She has over thirty years experience in health care. Her expertise is conditing internal coding, documentation and compliance audits. She has served as an expert witness in legal cases, is an expert at insurance appeals arguing for providers up through the the level of Administrative Law Judge appeals. As a graduate with honors from St. Augustine Technical Center in 1980 with a diploma in nursing, Joanne continued her education at Lake Erie College in Health Care Administration, obtained a Bachelors of Science Degree in Natural Health Science from Clayton College, and continues to hold a nursing license in Ohio.

Ms. Drummond brings over 20 years experience and nine coding and billing certifications: CPC-I, CPC, CPC-H, PCS, FCS, CMC, ACS-RA, ACS-OB/GYN and CMBS-I. She serves on the national board of Advanced Coding Specialists in Radiology and OB/GYN. Karen is a past presenter for the American Academy of Professional Coders and has worked locally and nationally educating physicians and their staffs on documentation guidelines and coding concepts. She is also an American Academy of Professional Coders approved PMCC instructor, who has taught medical billing and coding at Stark State College, Canton City Schools Adult Education, and Portage Lakes Career Center in Ohio. Karen has worked for two large hospitals teaching the residency program documentation guidelines and as a coding manager. She has worked as a full time auditor for a government contractor and now works as consultant for a large firm based in North Carolina.
Karen is a certified healthcare auditor (CHA) and obtained her Medical Compliance Officer Certification (CMCO) from the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance where she also serves as a non-voting Board of Directors member. She is our lead Coding Exam Prep course instructor and an instructor for: ICD-10, Advanced Medical Terminology and Inpatient/Outpatient Medical Billing. |

Mr. Byron specializes in Inpatient Professional Claims auditing for documentation, coding and billing compliance at Cleveland Clinic. He is a Licensed Athletic Trainer (ATC-L) and certified Emergency Medical Technician -Intermediate (EMT-I) in which he provides training in emergency response to sports related injuries, develops protocols for emergency sports injuries used by EMS and trains EMS stations. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Ohio University and is a Certified Professional Coder (CPC) through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
Mr. Byron has extensive experience as a national speaker and trainer to providers, coders and billers across the country in the areas of coding, billing, anatomy, medical terminology, compliance and auditing. He has also served as a contractor for Medicare conducting Risk Adjustment audits.

Michael has over fifteen years of collection experience, including thirteen years in legal collections. Starting out as a collector, Michael progressed into management with increasing responsibilities, including the training of all newly hired collectors. He also led a monthly best practices meeting, where new ideas and procedures were discussed. As Manager of Process Improvement, Michael worked to ensure his firm’s collections processes were in compliance with all state and federal collection laws.
Michael graduated from Cleveland State University with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting, and is certified by ACA International as a Professional Collection Specialist (PCS). He brings his passion for teaching collections to AIHC’s Certified Medical Collector (CMC) course.

Katherine has over 15 years experience in coding, compliance and education. She has experience with all facets of the physician’s office, from initial contact and intake to compliance and insurance reimbursement. Katherine has also worked locally educating doctors and staff on documentation requirements and coding standards.

He served on our Board of Directors for 2 years to bring industrial diversity and standards to strengthen our health care education programs.
He has contributed to developing our Lead Auditor Certification Program, rendering advice and training in internal auditing standards and statistics and serves as one of the primary instructors for the lead auditor education program.
He is an expert in ISO9001: 2000 and TE9000 standards (telecommunications) as well as the QS9000 standards of excellence. Bob provides advice regarding statistical evaluation of business operations, development of quality improvement systems, documentation, policies and procedures, staff training and education in quality improvement and serves as the quality expert on the Health Care Consulting Services, Inc. professional staff.
