Ms. Byron is CEO and founder of the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance and chairperson of the Board of Directors. She has developed the programs offered through this institute, has co-written the curriculum, and has served as an instructor for these programs as well.
Joanne serves as the Chairperson of the Board for Ohio with the American College of Medical Coding Specialists (ACMCS). She is affiliated with AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants), AAPC (American Academy for Professional Coders), ACMCS (American College of Medical Coding Specialists), AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association), ASQ (American Society for Quality), and the MGMA (Medical Group Management Association). She has over thirty years experience in health care, from practice management, coding and auditing to consulting, designing education programs for colleges and hospitals and developing distance learning programs and nationally recognized certification exams for health care professionals.
As a graduate with honors from St. Augustine Technical Center in 1980 with a diploma in nursing, Joanne continued her education at Lake Erie College in Health Care Administration, obtained a Bachelors of Science Degree in Natural Health Science from Clayton College, is a Certified Healthcare Auditor and Certified Professional Coder and holds a current license in North Carolina and Ohio as a Practical Nurse.

Carl is a certified professional coder through the American Academy of Professional Coders and certified health care auditor. He has served as safety officer, auditor and has been a clinical provider in the health care system. He has been a health care consultant since 1995 working in areas of compliance, chart audits, coding and documentation.
Specializing in compliance, coding, auditing, orthopaedics, sports medicine, rehabilitation E&M and rheumatology, he has been instrumental developing coding and documentation education programs. He specializes in therapy and rehabilitation documentation standards and evaluation & management auditing.
Carl is a graduate of Ohio University, attended Lourdes College and Cleveland State University and received specialized training from Cleveland Clinic to complete graduate academic requirements for Athletic Training. He is a Captain in field artillery in the United States Army.

Michael E. Gilner, BBA, CMC, PCS

Michael has over fifteen years of collection experience, including thirteen years in legal collections. Starting out as a collector, Michael progressed into management with increasing responsibilities, including the training of all newly hired collectors. He also led a monthly best practices meeting, where new ideas and procedures were discussed. As Manager of Process Improvement, Michael worked to ensure his firm’s collections processes were in compliance with all state and federal collection laws.
Michael graduated from ClevelandStateUniversity with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting, and is certified by ACA International as a Professional Collection Specialist (PCS). He brings his passion for teaching collections to AIHC’s Certified Medical Collector (CMC) course.

Marta Kennedy, RN, BS, CPC, MCMC

Marta obtained her associate degree of science in nursing from ClarkStateCommunity College, and then proceeded to obtain her Bachelor of Science – Health Administration degree from Kennedy-WesternUniversity. She is an experienced academic instructor teaching Medical Law and Ethics, coding Anatomy & Physiology courses. Her certification in coding through the AmericanAcademy of Professional Coders, and her position as Compliance Director of Wright State Physicians provides a strong foundation as an instructor for the Institute. Marta is an instructor for the Medical Compliance Manager Certification (MCMC) course.

Mr. Pattison is a Certified Manager of Quality and Organizational Effectiveness (CMQ), Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), Medical Compliance Manager, Certified (MCMC) and Certified Healthcare Auditor (CHA) with approximately 25 years of experience in quality and business systems management and implementation. He served on our Board of Directors for 2 years to bring industrial diversity and standards to strengthen our health care education programs.
He has contributed to developing our Lead Auditor Certification Program, rendering advice and training in internal auditing standards and statistics and serves as one of the primary instructors for the lead auditor education program.
He is an expert in ISO9001: 2000 and TE9000 standards (telecommunications) as well as the QS9000 standards of excellence. Bob provides advice regarding statistical evaluation of business operations, development of quality improvement systems, documentation, policies and procedures, staff training and education in quality improvement and serves as the quality expert on the Health Care Consulting Services, Inc. professional staff.

Karen attended Ryder Medical Coding School and is a certified professional coder (CPC) through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). With fifteen years medical office experience, Karen started in registration, moved to a position as medical secretary and then progressed into the medical coding and collections field. She has worked extensively with front end payer rejects, claim error reports and self pay accounts management. Working for a children's hospital, Karen shares her insurance and self pay collection strengths with her students. Her professional affiliations are with: the American Academy of Professional Coders and the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance. She is an instructor for the institute's Certified Medical Collector (CMC) course.

Ms. Woods is currently working as a Compliance Officer in Ohio. She has been involved in Health Information Management, Coding, Revenue and Compliance for the last twenty years. Debra is a member of American Academy of Professional Coders, Ohio Health Information Management Association and American Health Information Management Association. She is a graduate of Sinclair Community College, Capital University, The Ohio State University and Central Michigan University with degrees in Health Information Management and Health Service Administration. She has earned a Master degree in Adult Education and Teaching and is one of our Certified Healthcare Auditor (CHA) program instructors.
